From Reduction to Management: New Approaches to Regulate Wild Meat in Tanzania - USAID Tuhifadhi Maliasili

This case study highlights the efforts of the Tuhifadhi Maliasili (Preserve Nature Resources) activity in Tanzania. Implemented by RTI International, this activity aims to ensure the secure and sustainable connectivity of wildlife habitats. It achieves this goal by enhancing the institutional capacity of both public and private stakeholders to manage natural resources.

As part of its comprehensive strategy to safeguard wildlife corridors, Tuhifadhi Maliasili addresses the demand for wild meat in Tanzania through two primary approaches: conducting campaigns to change consumer behavior and collaborating with key governmental bodies such as the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority and local authorities to regulate the legal trade of wild game.

In 2022, USAID collected this case study, as part of a series that looks at USAID-funding activities from around the world. The case study provides a snapshot of the activity and how it addresses the questions posed in the Wild Meat Learning Agenda.
