Chapter 4.9 of USAID's Biodiversity and Development Handbook is focused on the integration of biodiversity conservation work with the sectors of land and marine tenure and property rights. Chapter Four contains sections that are a primer on integration of biodiversity into key development sectors. Land or marine tenure is defined as the institutional (political, economic, social, and legal) structure that determines how individuals and groups secure access to land/ocean and resources. Property rights are defined as the use, control, and transfer of assets, including land and natural resources, such as trees, biodiversity, and carbon.
