Natural resources, democracy and corruption
Using measures of resource rents and democracy (indices from the Polity IV database), the authors construct an econometric model that shows that resource abundance leads to more corruption in countries with poor democratic institutions (where the president need not worry about replacement via an election), but not where democratic institutions are stronger.
