This is a three-week intensive course for people working toward management of more sustainable fishery resources and communities. The course combines technical knowledge with personal leadership development for creating an impact across organizations. The application of systems approaches to fisheries management is the overarching theme of this leadership course. The participants will be introduced to the current thinking in fisheries science and technology, including stock assessments and population dynamics; social and economic issues; management principles, development of management objectives; application of basic and innovative tools to achieve those objectives and development and implementation of an effective co-management strategy. Lectures, field exercises, small-group work, simulations and case studies create a robust interactive dynamic for learning new insights and skills to more sustainably manage fisheries. The course is based on leadership development, focusing on transformational change at multiple levels—from individual to societal. Team building, a theme woven throughout each day, emerges as a major benefit of the three-week experience. The course develops leadership ability and insight. The overall purpose of this course is to assist participants in developing a plan of action for bringing about changes in fisheries management. What are the benefits of attending?
