Building on the success of last year’s CLA Case Competition, we are pleased to announce that we are now accepting submissions for the 2016 Competition!
USAID’s B+WISER program showcases its LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System at the first annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals.
A newly-formalized collaborative effort between Brazil’s law enforcement agencies and forest communities has ambitious plans to unravel an entire criminal enterprise operating in western Pará. Steve Schwartzman of the Environmental Defense Fund says such collaborative efforts can have a huge impact on curbing illegal deforestation and illegal logging.
USAID’s support to the Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) through the Biodiversity Understanding in Infrastructure and Landscape Development (BUILD) program (2011-2015) aimed to improve policy, regulatory and planning approaches to avoid or reduce negative impacts of infrastructure development on biodiversity.
DAI recently hosted a lab session and stand on gender equality at the 10th annual European Development Days conference in Brussels.
USAID’s Environmental Communication, Learning and Outreach (ECO) contract is a five-year project aimed at improving learning and communications in the Environmental and Natural Resource Management and Global Climate Change sectors for USAID staff and the broader development community.
This FRAMEgram highlights community conservation and community-based natural resource management (CBNRM), an effective approach to widely engage local communities in natural resource management. It presents examples of how empowered communities can take ownership to protect their natural resources and what factors lead to success.
This FRAMEgram focuses on information and resources from two major USAID biodiversity projects: the Biodiversity Understanding in Infrastructure and Landscape Development (BUILD) and Sustainable Conservation Approaches in Priority Ecosystems (SCAPES). You will also find many tools and resources in the links provided.
A webinar on “How Farmers in Africa are restoring Degraded Lands and Enhancing Resilience” was held at the World Resources Institute (WRI) in Washington DC.
SCAPES was the flagship program of USAID’s Forestry and Biodiversity Office, and as such played a prominent role in driving innovation across the Agency’s biodiversity conservation portfolio, and ultimately the wider international conservation community.
USAID LESTARI supports the Government of Indonesia to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve biodiversity in carbon rich and biologically significant forest and mangrove ecosystems. LESTARI applies a landscape approach to reduce emissions, integrating forest and peatland conservation with low emissions development on other, already degraded land. This is achieved through improved land use governance, enhanced protected areas management and protection of key species, sustainable private sector and industry practices, and expanded constituencies for conservation among various stakeholders.
This special edition of FRAMEgram is in recognition of World Wildlife Day 2017. Every year March 3rd marks the United Nations World Wildlife Day. This year’s theme is “Listen to the Young Voices.” The U.S. State Department’s theme is “Front Line Defenders: Honoring Those Who Protect Wildlife.”
