How to Use Advanced Search

Instructions for using Plone's Advanced Search.

Plone includes a powerful search engine. Most often, using the basic search will return what you are looking for. However, if the basic search does not find the items that you were looking for, or if the results are too broad, you can use the advanced search to refine your results.

To use the advance search:

1. Click the Advanced Search link, which can be found in the middle of the Search for Content portlet located on the right of the the home screen.

2. Enter your search terms. Available criteria for terms include: Text (will search for items with the term(s) anywhere in them); Title (will search for items titled with the term that you enter); Author (will search for items created by the given author); and Posted By (will search for items added to the portal by the user that you enter).

3. Select Categories. These are Tags that were created for ad-hoc organization of content. You can select individual tags by clicking on them, or multiple tags by Ctrl clicking (Command click on a Mac).

4. Enter terms for the Description. This refers to the description that was added to each item.

5. Select a criteria from New Items since. This will include items added since the selected criteria.

6. Select an Item type. You can select any of the standard item types.

7. Select a Review status. This refers to the items review state.

8. Finally, click search.
