The concept of "social and environmental soundness" encompasses a range of different issues, approaches, methodologies, interventions and monitoring.
Measurement, Reporting & Verification
The FCMC task on greenhouse gas measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) has the goals of: 1) creating a greater shared understanding and technical capacity at the international level, and among USAID staff and partners, to design and implement sustainable MRV systems for forest and land use greenhouse gas emissions; and 2) contributing to countries' forest and land use inventory and their measurement, reporting and verification systems.
Finance & Carbon Markets
The FCMC team assists countries and their institutions build the enabling REDD+ finance and carbon markets frameworks needed to attract and engage funding from the capital markets through financial structures and institutions such as risk management products, loan guarantees, registries, settlement and clearinghouse activities, audit and verification, public and private debt issuance, public-private partnerships (PPP), equity markets, municipal finance, emission reduction purchase agreements (ERPAs), and donor-based support.
Low Emissions Development Strategies
Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) are forward-looking national economic development plans that encompass low-carbon and/or climate-resilient economic growth.
Cross-Cutting Issues and Coordination
FCMC implementation and eventual success relies on coordination and complementarity between the focal task areas in order to identify synergies in the approaches defined, deliverables produced and services delivered.
