2008/9 TransLinks Training on REDD (Lima, Peru)

September 10 -12, 2008, Lima, Peru - Course, hosted by the Wildlife Conservation Society, with support from USAID through the TransLinks cooperative agreement, on developing forest carbon projects in tropical countries, including identification and approaches for engagement with government staff on national climate change mitigation policies.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

The training sought to provide knowledge and understanding on methods and policy for developing forest carbon projects in tropical countries, including identification and approaches for engagement with government staff on national climate change mitigation policies. Through interactive presentations and discussions, the training addressed the status of international policy on REDD and forest carbon, requirements for instituting and implementing forest carbon projects, an overview of methods and the project cycle for sub-national scale REDD projects and background on voluntary and compliance market trends. Case studies of WCS projects under development were also presented and all participants had the opportunity to discuss their work and review status/potential for emissions reductions financing options at their sites.
