African Elephant

Photo credit: VukaNow --- Description: Elephants play an important role in dispersing seeds, trampling ground to create natural fire breaks, and creating water access for smaller animals through their digging. Their loss would have a cascading effect on the environment, other animal species, and human populations. Tens of thousands of elephants are killed every year for their ivory tusks. While populations have recovered in some parts of southern Africa, poaching remains a significant problem in other parts of the continent, and VukaNow supports work to eliminate this threat.
