This report presents a synthesis of the Africa case study material prepared on legal aspects of Indigenous People’s and Local Community Conserved Territories and Areas (ICCAs) in Senegal Namibia and Kenya and also incorporates information and material from other African countries’ experiences with ICCAs, as documented in a range of other studies and publications. it identifies the types of ICCAs and the extent to which they are given legal recognition in national policy and legislation.
