2008 Rattan Value Chain Workshop (Palawan, Philippines) Dec 2-3, 2008, Palawan, Philippines - TransLinks Rattan Value Chain Workshop: A Visit to the Rattan Harvesters, co-hosted by EnterpriseWorks/Vita and the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation (CFIF) was the follow-up to the July 2008 TransLinks Value Chain workshop in Cebu City, Philippines. Rattan gatherers, community rattan concession holders, manufacturers, and local NGOs learned about the value chain dynamics, NTFPs and forest management in the context of biodiversity conservation, and tenure and governance issues that impact NTFPs in the Philippines. The workshop also included facilitated visits to manufacturing facilities to learn how the rattan is crafted into the end products and the market demand and competition factors that manufacturers face. Conservation Marketing Equation: A Manual for Conservation and Development Professionals Conservation Marketing Equation: A Manual for Conservation and Development Professionals The Conservation Marketing Equation manual is designed as a decision support tool to be used by an individual or project team whose goal is to better understand product development and marketing that promotes conservation and social equity. As a decision support tool, the manual is intended to assist conservation and development professionals in choosing business opportunities (products or services) that conserve biodiversity while reducing poverty for marginalized rural people. The assumption is that the proposed opportunity needs to be financially sustainable and this tool provides specific information and product worksheets to assess product market readiness. The manual allows you to prioritize your product development efforts in the areas in which you lack information, and aims to provide valuable insight on where to find this information. The examples used throughout the text incorporate actual product development and marketing lessons from a decade of field work by EnterpriseWorks/VITA and its partners in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
